Alex Nuñez’s work explores lush environments drawn from her Cuban-American heritage and the landscapes of South Florida, the Caribbean, and the Gulf Coast. Using acrylic, pastel, glitter, and gold leaf, she creates shimmering, immersive ecosystems that feel both seductive and unstable. Mutant mangroves, alien coral, and charged atmospheric elements suggest environmental fragility alongside resilience. Rooted in a visual language of tropical abundance, her work engages themes of climate change, cultural hybridity, and survival.

Born and raised in Miami, Alex Nuñez is a Cuban-American mixed-media painter. She received her MFA from Hunter College, City University of New York, and was a C12 Emerging Artist Fellow. Her solo exhibitions include the C12 Fellowship at Marianne Boesky in New York, Club Gallery (Baker Hall) in Miami, and Faena Art Project Room in Miami Beach. Her work has been exhibited at El Museo del Barrio in New York. She is the host and producer of the “Sunday Painter” podcast on Jolt Radio, now in its ninth year, and a recipient of the Locust Projects Wavemaker Grant. Her work has been reviewed and published in The New York Times, Artforum, CNN, Art Nexus, Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, W Magazine, and Observer. She is currently an artist in residence at Collective 62 in Miami, Florida, and is working on her first public art acquisition for Miami-Dade County’s Art in Public Places, a commission for the Doral Branch Library to be completed in Summer 2026.
